LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (March 28, 2006) – Lydia Carson, director of Arkansas Manufacturing Solutions (AMS), has been named to the Arkansas District Export Council (DEC). Carson’s confirmation as one of the seven new council members named was recently announced by the U.S. Dept. of Commerce. Her term expires Dec. 31, 2009.

“The Arkansas DEC is dedicated to furthering this state’s economic development on an international level,” Carson said. “I am humbled to be included among such an elite group of economic and business leaders who are all dedicated to realizing this state’s potential as a true economic engine.”

The Arkansas District Export Council is one of numerous regional DEC’s that provide business leadership and expertise to support the U.S. Commercial Service’s Export Assistance Centers.
The Council offers advice on private sector export matters, promoting and sponsoring export-related seminars, counseling businesses on export-related topics and communicating with Congress and other legislative bodies in support of export initiatives.
The DEC strategic plan includes numerous legislative issues determined by a consensus of the National Steering Committee, the regional DEC Executive Committees and delegates to the National DEC Conference.

The Arkansas District Export Council is a diverse group of volunteer professionals with expertise as exporters of manufactured products and services, providers of export support services, administrators in academia and leaders of non-profit organizations of government. The Council’s knowledge of international business provides a unique source of professional advice to help Arkansas-based firms compete and win business in the international marketplace.

Carson has served as AMS director since 2001. Prior to being named director, she served as a field engineer for the program for five years. Carson has also worked with product and development engineering for Lexmark International and in design with Ford Motor Company.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Vanderbilt University and a Master’s degree in business administration from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

In addition to being named a new member of the Arkansas DEC, Carson also serves on the UALR Mechanical and Electrical Systems Engineering Advisory Council, UALR Arkansas Executive Summit Advisory Council, American Society of Mechanical Engineers and Arkansas Economic Developers.

Arkansas Manufacturing Solutions is a program of the Arkansas Science & Technology Authority.
